Comics and Videogames Translation Workshops for teenagers

Comics and Videogames Translation Workshops at the Summer Translation Academy

The Language Project will be participating at the Summer Translation Academy organized by Hellenic American College in collaboration with the Hellenic American College. During the Academy, young students of the English language will have the opportunity to explore the world of translation and acquire knowledge and practical experience by attending a two weeks course.

Participants will learn about the role and importance of translation and the use of dictionaries and will be asked to translate song lyrics, comics and games, excerpts from teen novels, interviews and articles. They will also familiarize themselves with the role of translating for institutions such as the EU and the UN.

The Language Project will organize two seminars during the Summer Translation Academy:

  • A comics translation seminar, taught by translator and interpreter, Dr. Zoi Resta, and philologist and comic book artist, Vagelis Kolotsios.
  • A videogames translation seminar, taught by translator and editor of many printed and online gaming publications, Fokionas Harokopos.

Participants need to be 15-17 high-school and college students with basic computer skills and have a C2 (English) proficient level or degree.

Upon completion of the course students will receive a portfolio of translated texts they produced during the course in their final edited version along with their Certificate of Attendance.

The Academy is offered in Athens through Hellenic American College from June 25 – July 6, 2018.
